Coolblue achieves slight growth to 2.35 billion revenue

Summary

Today, Coolblue announces its annual figures for 2022. With the energy crisis, inflation, and a low consumer confidence as a result, 2022 was a challenging year. Still, Coolblue managed to end the year with a record revenue of 2.35 billion euros, a slightly higher result than the year before (+0.6%). This growth was the result of, among other things, the strong growth in Germany to a revenue of 174 million euros, the grown market share for product categories such as washing machines and laptops in the Netherlands and Belgium, and the large demand for energy-saving products. With a positive EBITDA of 43 million euros, the growth was ultimately not enough to balance the rising costs and margin pressure.

Growth in Germany continues
Last year, Coolblue advanced further into Germany with the opening of its second German store, in Essen, and the expansion of CoolblueBikes. In part thanks to these investments, the revenue there increased to 174 million euros last year.

Coolblue Energy grows at lightning speed
In 2022, energy saving was more relevant than ever before. Coolblue noticed a strong demand for energy-saving products and Coolblue Energy also grew at lightning speed.

Record number of developers and next steps
2022 was also the year in which Coolblue welcomed a record number of developers and in which many Coolbluers took the next step in their careers. In part because of this, the online retailer was able to implement many large improvements in its warehouse, delivery service, and customer service.

Looking ahead to 2023: Further growth in Germany and 5 new stores
Pieter Zwart, Coolblue CEO: “2023 will be the year in which we’ll make our stores a little bit better again and open at least 5 new stores. We’ll also implement many large improvements to our websites and our app, to help customers even better with their choice. Additionally, we have high expectations for the further growth in Germany, where we have established an überhigh NPS of 80 by now. And with Coolblue Energy, we’ll help even more customers save energy from our brand-new office in Utrecht. In short: 2022 was challenging, but excellently prepared us to make 2023 the absolute best Coolblue year ever. And for that, I want to thank you and all Coolbluers very much!”
